FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions: Institute of Neurological Recovery® (INR®)
About the INR’s Pioneering Perispinal Etanercept Treatment for Neuroinflammation
- What is perispinal etanercept? Perispinal etanercept is a method of targeting detrimental neuroinflammation using etanercept, a special anti-inflammatory drug, delivered utilizing a novel, non-invasive injection method.
- Is perispinal etanercept experimental? Perispinal etanercept is NOT experimental. Perispinal etanercept has been used to treat more than 5,000 chronic stroke patients since 2010 at the Institute of Neurological Recovery.
- Is perispinal etanercept a spinal injection? Perispinal etanercept is NOT a spinal injection. The small needle utilized is much too short to reach the spinal canal or the epidural space.
- Is there scientific evidence, including published, randomized clinical trial (RCT) data, that supports the use of perispinal etanercept? Yes, in addition to multiple clinical publications and published basic science research from U.S. and international academic centers, there is published RCT evidence (randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial data) that supports the scientific rationale, safety, and efficacy of perispinal etanercept.
- I had a stroke or brain injury many years ago. Is it too late for treatment? No, it is not too late. Neuroinflammation can last for years, or even decades, after brain injury. Life-changing neurological improvements following perispinal etanercept treatment performed weeks, months, years, or even decades after stroke or brain injury are not uncommon.
- Is there an upper age limit for treatment? There is no upper age limit; the Institute of Neurological Recovery has treated patients up to age 100.
- Can international patients receive treatment? Yes, to date the Institute of Neurological Recovery has treated patients from 109 countries, from every state in the U.S., and from every populated continent.
- How can I schedule a consultation or refer a patient to the Institute? Please call the Institute of Neurological Recovery at (561) 353-9707 for scheduling.
- Do I need a referral to be seen at the Institute? Referrals are not required. The Institute of Neurological Recovery has received, and welcomes, referrals from neurologists, speech pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, primary care physicians, online stroke groups, and, of course, patients and their family members.
